Where Topaz can be Mined

Topaz is the hardest silicate mineral as well as one of the hardest minerals in nature. Gem quality topaz can be found in many places around the globe. Translucant and transparent cystals can reach very large sizes and make very attracive mineral specimens because of their high luster, nice colors, and well formed multifaceted cystals.

Rock hounders can go to the Thomas Range in Utah to find topaz that glows a sherry color when initially uncovered. However, with exposure to the sun, the crystals will generally become clear. One might be fortunate enough though to find a topaz crystal that will fade to a beautiful pink.

Gem quality topaz can be found in the following places:

Colorado, Madagascar, Cornwall, Maine, Ireland,
Tasmania, New Hampshire, SW Africa, Brazil, California,
Rhodesia, Mexico, Ural Mountains, Siberia, Pakistan,
Utah, Queensland, Mynamar, Saxony, Japan, Scotland,
Sri Lanka, Idaho, Nigeria
